A substance’s oxidation-reduction potential, or ORP, is a measure of its ability to oxidise or reduce another substance. A positive ORP metre reading indicates that the substance is an oxidising agent, while a negative reading indicates that the substance is a reducing agent.

ORP is crucial in water testing because it indicates whether water is sanitised or contaminated based on its oxidation and reduction properties.

Proper pH levels are critical to water quality. Toxic heavy metals, for example, dissolve easily in acidic water and are more harmful to the environment. The availability of essential plant nutrients is also affected by pH, with many nutrients becoming less available at pH levels above 7.

A pH meter provides a much more accurate reading than a test strip kit and eliminates the mess of using droppers.
